Abstract While industrialized countries' stem cell research will be transferable to the developing world, research conducted by developing countries offers the potential to target innovation to local context, make treatments more affordable, and aid in economic development. India demonstrates that stem cell research and development (R&D) is not confined to industrialized countries and has begun to harness stem cells to address its own health needs.
