Abstract Bacteria subvert the immune system by suppressing antimicrobial responses or directly killing immune cells. A new study shows that Staphylococcus aureus can also turn antimicrobial responses to its advantage by converting neutrophil extracellular traps into a bacterial weapon against macrophages.
