Abstract Obesity is associated with atrial dilation and diastolic dysfunction although the causative mechanisms are not completely understood. In this study we showed for the first time that increase in epicardial fat thickness is significantly correlated with atria enlargement and impairment in diastolic filling in morbidly obese subjects.
