Abstract A comparative analysis of the results of surgical treatment of 603 patients with malignant neoplasms of the thyroid gland before and after the accident at the Chernobyl atomic power station are presented. A very aggressive course of thyroid cancer in pediatric patients after the accident and the ensuing necessity to extend the indications for the performance of thyroidectomy with radical intervention on the regional lymph collectors are noted.
