Abstract Tetracyclines are frequently used in the treatment of periodontitis; however, emergence of resistant bacterial strains has decreased the utility of these drugs. At present, there are a lot of data in the literature from which one can draw conclusions regarding the use of local drug delivery. This paper reviews the utility and different systems of local delivery of minocycline, a semisynthetic tetracycline, in the treatment of periodontitis.
