Abstract Share this page

Abstract Activity of the peroxidase-hydrogen peroxide system is proposed as a biological marker of ecological risk of heavy metal contamination of the environment. The effect of lead, copper, mercury, and cadmium ions on peroxidase system activity in human peripheral blood neutrophils was studied using cytochemical methods. A possible mechanism of suppression of peroxidase system activity by metal ions is discussed.
