Abstract This study evaluated the treatment of uremic pruritus with ultraviolet B light in patients with chronic renal failure and severe pruritus not attributed to other skin or internal disease. Eight of ten patients responded with complete relief of itching. Photoinactivation of a yet unidentified substance could explain the success of this treatment.
