Abstract There are numerous procedures available for surgical management of a urethral stricture. Establishing the correct indication for performing a specific surgical method requires a great deal of experience. Nonetheless, postoperative complications are never avoidable. Secondary intervention after an unsuccessful primary operation poses particular challenges to the surgeon. This article provides an overview of the open surgical techniques currently employed. It also highlights factors that should be considered to minimize postoperative complications. The concluding discussion describes the individual surgical procedures suitable for revision surgery depending on the previous approach. This article was published in Urologe A and referenced in Journal of Cell Science & Therapy
