Biography

Dr. Ami Schattner is a graduate of the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School (MD) with extensive postdoctoral research experience at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot (5 years, working on interferon-induced enzymes and TNF) followed by a Fulbright Fellowship to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York (Natural killer cells) and Tufts University, Boston (Idiotypes in autoimmunity and Rheumatology). Visiting Professor at Stanford University (1996, Feldman Fellow), Harvard Medical School (2001, FAIMER Fellow), Cambridge (2004) and University of Oxford (2013). Head of a large academic Department of Medicine since January 1991. Full Professor of Medicine, Hebrew University Hadassah, Jerusalem and the author of over 300 publications. Research interests include: Rheumatoid arthritis and Sjorgen's syndrome; Cytokines in autoimmunity; Cytokines in chronic hepatitis C; Complement system in Rituximab treatment; Quality of care, Patient-physician relationship and Medical Education (Dean's Faculty Prize, 2014).
