Biography

Fábio Arrojo received his B.Sc in Biotechnology from the University of Sorocaba (UNISO) in Brazil. During the first degree studies, he joined the Biotechnology Laboratory, where he developed a project to check the toxicity of nanoparticles using Allium cepa and, in parallel, a project that focused to bring science in a user-friendly way to the public. His M.Sc. degree was completed in the Center for Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering (CBMEG) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, where he developed and optimized high-throughput genotyping tests for deafness in the Brazilian population. He is currently an international Ph.D. student at the Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory of the CBMEG/UNICAMP, in Brazil, and spending a year in Karen Avraham’s laboratory as part of his Ph.D. thesis project. Fabio is now working to identify and characterize genes related to deafness using Next-Generation Sequencing.
