Dr. Stewart is a Team Leader within the Emerging Infectious Diseases Program of the CSIRO Biosecurity Flagship. Dr. Stewart's research is primarily focused on studying the interaction of host cells with emerging infectious diseases such as Hendra virus and highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in order to understand mechanisms of virus disease and to develop novel antiviral therapies. Dr. Stewart's research particularly focuses on RNAi technologies, microRNAs and innate immunology. Dr. Stewart graduated from the University of Melbourne Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in March 2007. He undertook his first post-doctoral position at Harvard Medical School, Boston, and his second post-doctoral position at the CSIRO Australian Animal Health Laboratory. In 2011 Dr. Stewart was appointed as a Research Scientist at AAHL to lead the project titled “Hendra virus antivirals”. In 2014 he was appointed as Team Leader within CSIRO.
