Biography

After the graduating form the Pharmaceutical Sciences (PharmD), worked as a pharmacist for almost 2 years. The graduation period started at 1998 at the Laboratory of Pharmacology under supervision of dr. Lusiane Bendhack. The main subject of the masters’ degree was to study the contraction-signaling pathways in non-vascular smooth muscle induced by depolarization. Following a paper resulted from the masters’ project: “High concentrations of KCl release noradrenaline from noradrenergic neurons in the rat anococcygeus muscle” (http://www.scielo.br/pdf/bjmbr/v36n1/4428.pdf). The main technics used were in-vivo and ex-vivo experiments (rats muscular reactivity). The PhD goal was to evaluate the Ca2+ signaling pathways in conditions such as adrenergic stimulation, pH changes and also depolarization. During the development of the project she measured Ca2+ concentrations in live (fresh) smooth muscle cells loaded FURA-2/AM. Concerning this technic I had around four months working to improve it at the Cell Signaling Transduction laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Ian McFadzean and Dr. Alan Gibson at the King’s College in London.

Research Interest

Cardiovascular pharmacology. She is interested in studying the cellular events related to myocyte and vascular remodeling induced by injuries triggered by hypertension and/or metabolic / inflammatory related diseases
