Biography

Dr. Eliana Di Gioia graduated with honors in Dentistry in the Università degli Studi di Bari in Italy in 1984; she specialized with honors in Orthodontics at the School of Specialization in Orthodontics at the Università Cattolica S. Cuore di Roma. She attended seven Annual Postgraduate Master in Orthodontics at the Federico II University of Naples, State Univ. of Pavia, S. Raffaele Hospital Univ. in Milan, State Univ. of Parma. She attended with profit more than 150 courses and national and international courses and conferences. She is dedicated exclusively to the field of orthodontics in her private practice of dentistry since 1986; she treated a high number of orthodontic clinical cases in different age groups of patients (child, adolescent and adult). From 1984 to 1996 she carried out research in collaboration with Prof. Elio Di Gioia (Chair of Orthodontics, University of Bari), and Prof. Ing. L. M. Galantucci (Polytechnic of Bari). Since 2007 she conducts research for the project PRIN 2007 on Non-Invasive Facial Diagnosis in Orthodontics with Prof. Deli (Catholic University of Rome) and Prof. L. M. Galantucci (Polytechnic of Bari). She is Adjunct Professor at the School of Specialization in Orthodontics - Università Cattolica S. Cuore di Roma aa 2011-2012-2013-2014. Her research has included orthodontics appliances; shape memory alloys; face anthropometry; 3D face scanning. Based on this research and fellowship training she has received several awards and honors, such as: Winner with Prof. Galantucci and Prof. Percoco in 2009 Scientific Conference Best Paper Award at the International Congress Imecs, Hong Kong, 2009; award finalist in the National Award ITWIIN - Best Inventor - Best Innovator in 2011. She made several works in the orthodontic field (scientific publications on Italian and international journals, book chapters, oral presentations, poster presentation, et c.). She is a member of many orthodontic scientific societies including: S.I.D.O. the Italian Society of Orthodontics, the European Orthodontics Society, the International Association for Dental Research, the Italian Association of Women Innovators and Inventors, the Perioral & Oral Sciences Integrated Esthetic Italian Society. She is currently in the National Board of the Italian Society of Orthodontics.
