Biography

Filippo Familiari is a Fourth Year resident in Orthopaedics at the “Magna Græcia” University of Catanzaro (Italy). He has graduated from the same University in 2011. He also completed a 18-month clinical observership and research fellowship in the Division of Shoulder Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland, USA). His areas of special interest include injuries to the shoulder, and related issues such as shoulder instability, shoulder rotator cuff problems and shoulder joint replacements. In addition to these, his research areas of interest include ligament healing, biomechanics and epidemiology of shoulder injuries. He is serving as an editorial member of the International Journal of Orthopaedics and Journal of Arthritis. He is also reviewer for: Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES); Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research (JOSR); Bone and Joint Research; European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (EJOS); Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery; Indian Journal of Orthopaedics; The Journal of Sport Rehabilitation; Musculoskeletal Surgery (La Chirurgia degli Organi di Movimento); Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery; BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders; Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy (KSSTA); Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology; Journal of ISAKOS (JISAKOS); The American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM). He has authored or co-authored 18 research articles on peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters. He is a member of numerous professional organizations such as, Società Italiana di Ortopedia e Traumatologia (SIOT), Associazione Italiana degli Specializzandi in Ortopedia e Traumatologia (AISOT), Società Polispecialistica Italiana dei Giovani Chirurghi (SPIGC), Società Italiana del Ginocchio Artroscopia Sport Cartilagine Tecnologie Ortopediche (SIGASCOT), and European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA).

Research Interest

Injuries to the shoulder, and related issues such as shoulder instability, shoulder rotator cuff problems and shoulder joint replacements. In addition to these, his research areas of interest include ligament healing, biomechanics and epidemiology of shoulder injuries.
