Biography

George Owusu-Dapaah is the Vice Rector and second in command of Kumasi Polytechnic. He is a Senior Lecturer and has been a faculty member of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (formerly Department of Dispensing Technology) since 1994. He is a registered pharmacist and has been a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana from 1988. He is also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Technology and Management Research (IJTMR).

Dr. Owusu-Dapaah received his PhD from the University of Strathclyde (2008), and his M.Pharm (1994) / B.Pharm (1987) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). His current research interests are in the areas of anti-sickling agents from natural products, ligand approach to drug discovery through pharmacophore generation, and synthesis of quinazoline-2,4-diones and 1,4-benzodiazepine-2,5-diones for the treatment of trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis.

He has undertaken several studies and research projects on medicinal plants in Ghana related to bioassay and stability studies, antibacterial activities, and lethality tests, among others. He has also carried out extensive outreach and community-based programmes focussing on communicable diseases and other health issues all over Ghana. He has over seven peer reviewed publications and papers in conference proceedings.

Ligand approach to drug discovery through pharmacophore generation.
Drug discovery from natural products.
Search for anti-sickling agents from natural products.
