Biography

Dr. M. Lenzi is an ecologist who graduated from the Biological Science of Pisa University (Italy). Currently, he directs the research activities of the Lagoon Ecology and Aquaculture Laboratory (LEALab), for the Orbetello Pesca Lagunare Company. He cooperated or is co-operating with Grosseto University Pole, Universities of Pisa, Siena, Florence, Parma, Venice and Rome, Central Institute for Environment Research and Protection of Rome (ISPRA, ex ICRAM), WWF-Italy, Regional Agency for Tuscany Environmental Protection (ARPAT), FAO-Rome, National Research Council (CNR, Italy), National Agency for New Technology (ENEA), Italian Health High Institute (ISS) and Orbetello Lagoon Environmental Reclamation Authority. His research holds mainly the following lines: 1- control of submerged vegetation development and forecast and prevention of dystrophic risks in lagoon environment; 2- bio-geo-chemistry of the coastal sediment; 3- biological tools for lagoon environment management; 4- assessment of seagrass meadow state and quantifying the human impact; 5- assessment of fish-farm wastewater impact and improvement solutions. He taught for first level Master (Univ. of Siena) and for aquaculture specialization courses (Ministry of the Environment and Territory and Sea Protection- MATTM, Regional Administration of Tuscany-RT and Grosseto Department Administration-PGr) and was Relator of Degree Thesis (University of Pisa, Siena and Rome). Member of Italian Society of marine Biology (SIBM) since 1985; Member of the Maremma Regional Natural Park Council between 1996-99; Cofounder Member of Italian Network for Lagoon Research (LAGUNET) since 2006.
