Muhammad Abbas, 31, is a lecturer of chemical engineering in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Biography

Muhammad Abbas, 31, is a lecturer of chemical engineering in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Born in Sarawak, and educated in UTM, UK and Japan. He obtained his first degree in chemical engineering in 2001, and started his career as a tutor in UTM on the same year. He took up a position as a lecturer after receiving his MSc from Loughborough University UK in 2004. He was appointed as a coordinator for industrial training (2004-2007) and head of bulletin for JAKRIS (2005-2007). He completed his PhD from Chiba University Japan in 2010. His PhD work encompasses the preparation of activated carbons rich in nitrogen content for heavy metals removal from aqueous solution. The main precursor was a biomaterial namely cattle manure compost, which is a residue from methane generation. The outcomes of this research were published in 2 international journals. Muhammad Abbas is known as a hardworking, results-oriented and versatile academic. He has published 6 articles in international journals and has been invited to be a reviewer for Journal of Hazardous Materials and Journal of Environmental Management.
