Orlando Gomes is Professor of Economics at the Lisbon Higher Institute of Accounting and Administration (ISCAL) of the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute. He teaches macroeconomics, public finance and international economics in undergraduate and graduate courses. He is currently the president of the Technical and Scientific Board of ISCAL. He has obtained his PhD degree in 2002 in the Lisbon University Institute, with a thesis in the field of economic growth. Since then, his research interests have been associated to the fields of macroeconomics, economic growth, monetary policy, behavior heterogeneity, nonlinear dynamics, complex systems and related areas. The results of this research have been published in relevant journals in the field (e.g., Computational Economics, Economics Letters, Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics, Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Economic Modelling).
Main research interests cover the areas of macroeconomics and related fields: economic policy, (especially monetary policy), economic growth, business cycles, international trade, international finance, labor market dynamics. In a more instrumental perspective, research interests are also related to the study of agents’ behavior, namely in contexts of heterogeneity and complexity. At this level, the following topics are relevant: dynamic analysis (applications on difference equations), nonlinear dynamics and chaos, and complex systems.
