India is a country which depends on agriculture for its food. Agriculture is an important segment in Indian economy. I was interested to take up a career in research as in the topic of plant disease resistance. I was always inclined towards plant biology and I started learning some tools and software’s used in homology modeling like SPDBviewer, Rasmol and also a PhD was one step towards realizing this goal. I completed my PhD in Molecular biology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. My formal introduction to Biotechnology began at Shivaji University, under its excellent faculty an later while pursuing my doctoral studies. I got exposed to the entire spectrum of Biotechnology. In an environment that is intensely competitive, and were research goes hand in hand with learning, I also got a lot of drill in both the theoretical research work and implementation, thus laying a sound foundation for post graduate studies. My academic and co-curricular record has been consistently good throughout school as well as graduate studies. I have stood second in my BSc final year examination, while doing biotechnology I got an opportunity to learn subjects like plant tissue culture, plant gene transfer and genetic engineering, plant physiology, molecular biology, enzymology, plant biotechnological application, etc. I have developed theoretical knowledge as well as I have acquired practical skills like plant tissue culture, gel electrophoresis, centrifugation, thin layer chromatography, southern blotting, isolation of DNA, and also practical’s related to organic farming, etc. The topic of my research was to uncover the possible role of S-nitrosylation in jasmonic acid signalling during the plant immune response. My future goal is to set up a plant tissue culture laboratory in country like India in my own city to empower the Indian farmers and to uplift the community meanwhile to do a research which can find out an answer for the hunger.
