Biography

Prof. Dr. Thomas Penzel has received his Doctorate in Human Biology 1990 and his Habilitation in Physiology 1995 at the University Marburg / Germany. Currently, he is working as the scientific director in the Interdisciplinary Sleep Medicine Center at Charite University Hospital in Berlin / Germany. His research has included methods in sleep medicine and cardiovascular consequences of sleep apnea. Based on this research and fellowship training he has received several awards and honors, such as the Bial award in Portugal for Neurotelemedicine and the Bill Gruen award for innovations in sleep research by the Sleep Research Society, and the distinctive scientist award by the Chinese Sleep society. He serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals like Sleep, Sleep Medicine, Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Physiological Measurement, Klinische Neurophysiologie, Plos One. He is the editor in chief for the German journal Somnologie. He has authored more than 200 research articles. He is a member of AASM, ERS, ESRS, IEEE-EMB, ISSTA, ISOB, DGSM, DGBMT, DGP, DGK, GMDS, SBB, SRS, WASM and a board member of some of these.
