Aim of this study was to evaluate antihypertensive drug therapy in pre eclamptic woman. The study was conducted in 46 patients diagnosed with pre eclampsia. The effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs was analyzed by comparing systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after treatment. Result shows that 11 (23.91%) patients had maternal hypertension and the mean blood pressure was found to be higher in both obese and overweight patients. 23(50%) patients were treated with Methyldopa, and 14 (30.43 %) patients with the combination of Methyldopa and Nifedipine. The systolic blood pressure was reduced from 153 ±12.70 to 124.95± 9.16 mm Hg, (p value 0.001), diastolic blood pressure decreased from102.73±11.71 to 84.82±7.96 (p value 0.001). We concluded that Methyldopa and combination of Methyldopa with Nifedipine were found to be effective with non significant side effects and prescribed commonly. Overweight and obese are the prominent risk factors observed during the study.
