Backache is a pain or ache in the back. It is more common between the age of 35 and 55. It may be sudden and sharp. It may be caused by fall or heavy lifting, driving or sitting in a hunched position, slouching in chairs and overstretching. Backache is most common in the lower back ('lumbago'), although it can be felt anywhere along your spine, from your neck down to your hips. Activities such as yoga or pilates can improve your flexibility and strengthen your back muscles. Pain in the low back can be a result of conditions affecting the bony lumbar spine, discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine and discs, spinal cord and nerves, muscles of the low back, internal organs of the pelvis and abdomen, and the skin covering the lumbar area. Night time back pain is a special type of lower back pain that could indicate a serious problem with your spine. For acute lumbar strain, use of a home remedy initially can be beneficial
