IgA Nephropathy

IgA Nephropathy or berger’s disease is the disease that damages the glomeruli due to abnormal deposition of IgA protein antibodies in them, is the most common form of glomerulonephritis. It causes local inflammation decreasing kidney’s ability to filter excess water, wastes and electrolytes from blood.

In IgA Nephropathy, the glomeruli are inflamed by unknown agents. IgAN is the world’s most common glomerulonephritis [inflammation of the glomeruli], with unknown pathogenesis. IgA Nephropathy is animmune-complex mediated disorder or immunologically mediated disorder, as the immune complexes may not be the direct cause of the disease but they help bring about the end result, which is widespread inflammation of the kidneys.
