Microscopic Polyangiitis

Microscopic Polyangiitis is an uncommon disease characterised by inflammation of small and medium sized blood vessels of the kidneys leading to functional damage of the kidneys. Common symptoms include inflammation of kidney , weight loss, skin lesions, nerve damage and fevers.

Microscopic Polyangiitis can be treated and the goal of therapy is to prevent future damage to the organs from inflammation in the blood vessels. The cause of Microscopic Polyangiitis is not known. This condition can affect many organ systems in the body including the gastrointestinal system, skin, lungs, nerves and joints. Symptoms include fatigue, joint pain, “flu-like” symptoms, rapid and sudden loss of weight, shortness of breath, decreased appetite, rashes, cough and aches of muscles. Microscopic Polyangiitis is smniliar with another form of vasculitis called granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegener's), and have similar treatment procedures for these illnesses.
