Thyrotoxicosis

An excess of thyroid hormones in the blood leads to thyrotoxicosis. It may be due to over production by the Thyroid gland (as in Graves' disease), overproduction which may originate outside the thyroid or due to leakage from the gland. Symptoms include anxiety, sweating, tremor, and rapid heartbeat, a sudden rise in the metabolic rate; coma and death may occur.
