Academy Health was established in June 2000 following a merger between Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research (AHSR), established in 1976, the Alpha Center Grew to be recognized as one of the nation's leading health policy research resource centres providing good analysis, facilitation, education and training, strategic planning, and program management was formed in 1981 as a non-profit professional society for individuals and organisms with a commitment to health services research. AHSR's assignment included educating consumers and policymakers about the importance of health services research, information generated by health Researchers services, Securing funding for the field, and providing good networking and professional development opportunities.
The Association for Health Services Research (AHSR) is a national membership organization shaped to represent the field of health services research. As Such, AHSR Promotes cooperative relationship between researchers and public and private decision makers, reserves as a source of proficiency and knowledge about health service research and educates the public about the need for and contributions of the field.
As a national voice for health services research monitors federal legislation and funding for health services research activities. It also reserved to educate members of Congress and the executive branch about the contributions of health Researchers services.

The Foundation for Health Services Research is an educational member of the association. It conducts professional and educational activities such as the annual meeting, in addition to lectures and workshops on topics.
