Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA)

The Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) was set up in 1929 under the direction of Louis H. Bauer the first medical director of the Aeronautics Branch of the Department of Commerce (which later turned into the FAA). Dr. Bauer and his partners committed themselves and the new Association to "scattering of information as will upgrade the accuracy of their particular art...thereby managing a more prominent assurance of wellbeing to general society and the pilot, alike; and to cooperate... in assisting the advancement of aviation in the United States." From the 1929 hierarchical meeting of 29 "aeromedical inspectors," the Association has grown to its present quality of more than 2,200 individuals from more than 70 nations. A column on "This Month in Aerospace Medicine History" is published every month in the Association's journal. The AsMA work with a mission to advance the scientific knowledge for the enhancement of health, safety and performance of those involved in aerospace and related activities. It provides platform for education and promotes research and provides opportunities for the growth and development .Represent the field of Aerospace Medicine to professional, business and governmental organizations and advocate policies and standards. The Society has objective to advance the promote research in the field of aerospace medicine and providing a quality education program through scientific journals, scientific programs diverse facets of aerospace medicine. To enhance part fulfilment and investment keeping in mind the end goal to pull in and keep up the enrolment expected to propel aviation medication and safeguard movement of the Association. For achieving these objectives AsMA conducts the world's largest and comprehensive single annual meeting in the aerospace medical sciences and publishes a monthly journal named: Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance (formerly known as Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine). The recent event organized by the AsMA was 2016 European Congress of Aerospace Medicine.
