Afghan Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists

The Afghan Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists was established in Geneva, Switzerland by Professor Hubert De Watteville and he is the founding father of FIGO. It is a benevolent, professional non-profitable organization funded from societies, grants, publication royalties and the proceeds of its triennial world congress. It is the unique and only global organization representing national societies and associations of obstetricians and gynaecologists and brings them together from all over the world. It has member societies in 130 countries or territories and its secretariat is located in London, UK. It is collaborated with the world’s top health and donor bodies like WHO, UNFPA and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation etc. FIGO mainly focus on improving women’s health and new borns, advancing science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology and upgrading this practice through education, training and research to maintain high standard of professionalism and ethical adherence. The mission of the association is achieved through advocacy, programmatic activities, capacity strengthening of member associations, education and training. The vision of the association is that the women of the world should achieve the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive and sexual health and wellbeing throughout their lives.
