The ALVMA was formed in 1907 in Auburn, Alabama, USA and currently has a membership of about 750- or 75% of all veterinarians in the state of Alabama. This membership has helped the ALVMA become nationally recognized as one of the most active and effective state veterinary associations.

ALVMA consist of a foundation, which is well renowned as ‘The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation’ and was established to assist veterinary students and veterinary technicians by providing scholarships and endowments. Over the years, the Foundation hopes to progress in animal welfare programs, and support various other existing programs that contribute to the wellbeing of animals & enhance the human-animal bond. The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation was established on December 16, 2003, with the mission: to enhance the well being of animals and the human-animal bon.
