The Alabama Veterinary Medical Association is dedicated to the advancement of the art and science of veterinary medicine, the promotion & support of sound legislation as it affects veterinarians and the encouragement of responsible pet ownership. ALVMA- Committed to protecting People, Pets and Livestock – Yesterday, Today and Always.

The ALVMA was formed in 1907 in Auburn, Alabama, USA and currently has a membership of about 750- or 75% of all veterinarians in the state of Alabama. This membership has helped the ALVMA become nationally recognized as one of the most active and effective state veterinary associations.

ALVMA with purposes, to advance the art and science of veterinary medicine. To boost a cooperative spirit among veterinarians. To maintain high standards of professional qualifications through continual educational prospects. To increase public awareness of the importance of veterinarians in animal health and disease control. To promote & support sound legislation as it affects veterinarians. To promote and encourage responsibility with pet ownership.

ALVMA consist of a foundation, which is well renowned as ‘The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation’ and was established to assist veterinary students and veterinary technicians by providing scholarships and endowments. Over the years, the Foundation hopes to progress in animal welfare programs, and support various other existing programs that contribute to the wellbeing of animals & enhance the human-animal bond. The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation was established on December 16, 2003, with the mission:  to enhance the well being of animals and the human-animal bon.
