The American Academy of Clinical toxicology [AACT] is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary organization amalgamating scientists and clinicians in the development of education, research, prevention and treatment of diseases caused by drugs, chemicals and toxins. The AACT was founded with the particular goal of advancing the diagnosing and treatment of poisonings. The aims of the American Academy of Clinical toxicology chiefly are to Foster an improved understanding of the practice and principles of clinical toxicology, promote the study of health effects of poisons on humans and animals ,assemble into one cluster scientists and clinicians whose research, clinical and educational experience concentrate on clinical toxicology, facilitate information exchange among individual members and organizations inquisitive about clinical toxicology, encourage development of latest therapies and treatment in clinical toxicology, outline the position of clinical toxicologists on toxicology-related problems. The American Board of Medical toxicology was established in 1974 by the American Academy of Clinical toxicology to certify physicians in the specialty of clinical toxicology. American Board of Applied toxicology [ABAT], a second certifying board, was established in 1985 for non-physician peer recognition. Presently the American Academy of Clinical toxicology is an international organization whose membership is consists of clinical and research toxicologists, veterinarians, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, analytical chemists, poison information center specialists, industrial hygienists, and allied professionals. The AACT, connected with several professional organizations, holds annual conferences in conjunction with both the Canadian and American Associations of Poison control Centers and also the American college of Medical toxicology. it had been a member of the world Federation of Associations of Clinical toxicology Centers and Poison management Centers sponsored by the world Health Organization. The Academy supports the efforts of other toxicology organizations worldwide. The AACT coordinates the North American Congress of Clinical toxicology, a forum for presentations on clinical and applied research work. The Academy firmly supports the career development of its members involved in toxicology research. research awards are bestowed annually to junior research scientists to complete a significant clinical toxicology scientific research.it publishes The Clinical toxicology, a premier journal for Clinical toxicology, that includes current research and articles related to the clinical toxicologist, abstracts of clinical toxicology literature, announcements of AACT activities, and abstracts of the annual scientific meeting are accessible through these publications.
