The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists was built up in November 1970 to extend the experimental and instructive achievements of expert professionals in the orders of orthotics and prosthetics. The initiative of the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), an employment affiliation serving the interests of orthotic and prosthetic offices, makers, and suppliers, and the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC), the sole U.S. credentialing help around then, concurred that there was a requirement for an association committed on proceeding with training.
Taking after the initial three years of logistic and basic advancement, in 1974 the Academy held its first Annual Membership Meeting with two days of experimental presentations on thoughts in the act of orthotics and prosthetics.
