American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

The (AAAOM) was established in 1997 in response to the encouragement of staff and professor at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jinan, China. The classes began in 1999 in a small suite of rooms in the Technology Center building of the City University Dinky, near the University of Minnesota, USA. Meanwhile, there were about 40 full and part-time students and the school consisted of two classrooms, 4 treatment rooms and a small series of adjacent offices that served as reception, office administration and pharmacy. The clinical consultation room was slightly more than a closet with a window & sufficient space for a desk and 2 chairs.

Today, the American Academy of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine occupies its own campus with a traditional pharmacy herbal, 5 classrooms, 12 treatment rooms, a student clinic, student lounge, study room with access Internet, large practice area for events and tai chi Ch'uan classes and a library of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) literature in Chinese and English in the United States.

AAAOM is the only independent school accredited TCM Minnesota. In 2000, the global TCM AAAOM magazine awarded "Best Faculty." In 2002, the Twin Cities Wellness AAAOM magazine called "Mayo Clinic of Oriental Medicine." In the year 2003, TCM recognized AAAOM World Magazine as "Best New School" and recognized as having the "Best Program" for TCM in the nation.

AAAOM offers a Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine - focusing on the diagnostic model and pathology of TCM and all aspects of traditional treatment methods; not only acupuncture but also a large study of Chinese medicine herbal, dietary therapy, massage Chinese Tuina & Qigong healing. AAAOM is one of the schools of minorities in the country that offers a replica of the training if the student was to study traditional Chinese medicine in China. Students can choose to specialize in internal Chinese medicine, geriatrics, dermatology, gynecology, neurological disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, pediatric disorders or sensory organs. A feature of the program is AAAOM affiliation with medical schools in China.
