The consolidation of 3 existing societies, co-existing inextricably gave rise to the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities in January 1998. The three societiesare considered the founding organizations of the ASBH.
The logo, an abstract digitalized form of “BH” honor the three founding houses, while the symbol “+” formed by the digitalization of B and H, exemplifies the symbiotic and harmonious affinity of Bio-ethics and Humanities. Located in Chicago, Illinois the society’s missions are to exchange the ideas among the bio-ethics scholars, to enhance the clinical activities of the bio-ethicists, to encourage the discussions and the research in the field of bioethics, and to teach and develop new scholars in the field of Bio-ethics- these are the missions of American Association for Bioethics (AAB); While the mission of the Society for Bioethics Consultation (SBC) was to study ethics consultation. This society was the very first group to calibrate on ethics consultation. The Society for Health and Human Values (SHHV) wanted to restore, encourage and popularize human values as an indispensable, explicit dimension in the education for various health professionals.
