The establishment of the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology was a step with an objective of advancement in the treatment of the diseases which comes under the field of Rheumatology mainly Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc. The Association was established in 1963 at Sydney, Australia with the initiation of four countries Australia, India, Japan and New Zealand together at that time it was pronounced as SEAPAL (South East Asia and Pacific Area League against Rheumatism) and now it is known as APLAR. Since then, The Association is dedicated to its goal towards the advancement of the science and practice of Rheumatology and provides an encouragement for the practice of treatment in rheumatic diseases and coordinating scientific studies between various scientists and physicians throughout the region. The APLAR is affiliated to ILAR (International League of Association of Rheumatology). The first meeting of this association was held at the renowned Taj Mahal Hotel near Gateway of India in Bombay (India) in the year 1968. India was a founding member of APLAR and since then it has been an active contributor and dedicated for the world Rheumatology. The first president of APLAR was Mr SG Nelson from Australia. The sitting president of association is Professor Kevin Pile from Australia and the registered office of association is in Thailand. Today the Association has a membership of around 30 countries. APLAR strives to promulgate and consolidate Rheumatology endeavours in Asia Pacific region. The aim of APLAR is on the advancement and to promote the awareness regarding the all aspects of rheumatic diseases and fostering the research in Rheumatology field. The APLAR Congress is organized in every two years in which form the colloquy of many prominent Rheumatologist, orthopaedic surgeons, physiatrists, clinical immunologists, physical and occupational therapists, researchers and share experience on a common platform for the deliberations on all aspects of diseases relates to the field Rheumatology. The APLAR has also its official journal named International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases and published eight times per year. The upcoming congress 18th Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress (APLAR 2016) is going to be held in the month of September, 2016 at Shanghai, China.
