ACADIA was founded in 1981 by some of the pioneers. Full form of ACADIA is Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture. Bill Mitchell, Chuck Eastman, and Chris Yessios are the renowned pioneers.  It is a nonprofit organization. The headquarters are in Fargo, North Dakota, United States. The President of this society is Jason Kelly Johnson. After that, more than 30 conferences across North America were hosted by ACADIA and have grown into a strong network of academics and professionals who are in the field of design computation.  It is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals. To facilitate communication and exchange of information regarding the use of computers in architecture, planning and the software, hardware, and pedagogy involved in education is the mission of this association. Architects, educators, and software developers can be a member of this association. The activities of this society are Annual conference, Proceedings, Competitions and Awards, Grans and Scholarships, Publications. ACADIA sponsors an annual national conference which is held in the autumn of each year at North America in conjunction with a host university. In the conference the top experts are gathered who are in the field of design computing for peer-reviewed presentations of papers, special exhibitions and projects. ACADIA also began to support regional conferences. Each year the conference papers are gathered into a proceedings publication i.e., ACADIA publishes proceeding from the annual conference which is distributed to members. Among the four founding organizations which support the International Journal of Architectural Computing (IJAC) ACADIA is one of them. ACADIA conducts designing competitions. The first online competition was reviewed in 1998. The second competition was held in 2001. The highest award which can be achieved in the field of architectural computing is ACADIA Awards of Excellence. It was started in 1998. There are several categories of awards which cover emerging practice, categories of research, teaching the students, academic programs, and service to the community. It also awards grants to help support innovative research within the field and scholarships for students. There are four sister organizations of ACADIA. These are Association for Education, Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design (eCAADe) and it is in Europe since 1982, Association for Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAADRIA) and it is in Asia since 1996, Iberoamerican Society of Digital Graphics (SIGraDi) and Arab Society for Computer Aided Architectural Design (ASCAAD).
