The Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) is the principal professional association for American and international scholars of ecocriticism. It was originated in 1992 at a special meeting of the Western Literature Association conference in Reno, Nevada for the resolve of "sharing of facts, ideas, and texts about the study of literature and the environment. ASLE now has branches or correlated organisations ASLE-UKI (UK and Ireland); ASLE-Japan; ASLE-India, ASLE-Korea, and ASLE-Taiwan. Other associates have altered the acronym to restored reflect the scope of ecocriticism. In India, there are two ASLE affiliates, ASLE-India, and OSLE-India. On the 27th of May, 2006, ASLE-India was renamed OSLE-India (organisation for Studies in Literature and Environment-India). ASLE India is anticipated as a national forum for the collective understanding of the near relations and biological ties standing between literature, art, culture and the Environment. ASLE India works near a national awareness of these issues, recognizing completely well the diversities, differences and dissimilarities often inherent in such broader concerns. ASLE India is intended as a forum for creative interaction between intellectuals, academics, environmental activists, naturalists, nature-lovers, and those involved and devoted to these issues, and wish to continue equally open to each other’s separate, methodological and disciplinary differences and points of view. ASLE India hopes also to work in bike with other similar organizations and collectives.Today ASLE is a exciting international community of professors and teachers working crossways the humanities and arts and  representing a variety of disciplines including literature, history, philosophy, environmental studies, cultural geography, film and media, cultural studies, women and sexual characteristics studies, religious studies, ethnography, psychology, and  anthropology.
