The Association for Tropical Lepidoptera is a non-profit scientific society and educational membership organization, originated in 1989 to stimulate the study and conservation of Lepidoptera international and especially in the tropical regions of the world. ATL at present publishes the full-color biannual scientific journal Tropical Lepidoptera Research. The Association for Tropical Lepidoptera is committed to the research, thoughtful, and appreciation of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) that arise throughout tropical areas of the flora and fauna. The full-color scientific journal TROPICAL LEPIDOPTERA Research is distributed by the Association for Tropical Lepidoptera twice a year, in June and December. The journal commenced publication in 1990. All articles are peer-reviewed to provide the highest consistent quality and scientific content. Major abstracting services cover the journal, including Abstracts of Entomology (BIOSIS) and Zoological Top score. The organization of an association to "sponsor the scientifically sound and advanced study of Lepidoptera by: Distributing a publication on Lepidoptera; Facilitating the conversation of specimens and ideas by both the professional employee and the interested amateur in the field."The association was offered to be called The Lepidopterists' Union, but the word "Society" was quickly substituted for "Union." The University of Michigan and Charles Remington approved on the organizing of The Lepidopterists Society. There are now members in over 60 countries (the common presence from all 50 United States and 10 Canadian provinces). The Lepidopterists' Society embraces a wide range of interests and lookouts concerning the study and obligation of moths and butterflies. The Society has continuously crowed devoted amateurs among its ranks, often in leadership characters. The Society has always located much importance on the science associated through Lepidoptera. It shall be the determination of the Society to sponsor internationally the science of lepidopterology in completely its subdivisions.
