The Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI) founded in 1932 by Dr. Henry W. Featherstone (1894-1967). The AAGBI adopted the motto "in somno securitas" i.e. safety in sleep. AAGBI represents the medical and political perspective of more than 11,000 anesthetists in the UK and the Irish Republic, and its membership abroad is in close contact with anesthetists in many other countries. The AAGBI is managed by the Council, elected from among the members for a term of four years, and senior officers who are elected to the Council. The AAGBI has a wide constitution that allows him to promote and advance safety, education and research in anesthesia, as well as the professional aspects of the art and well-being of individual anesthetists.
