Britain & Eire Association of Vitreo-Retinal Surgeons –BEAVRS

The aim of the Association is to promote good quality patient care by supporting and representing British and Irish Vitreo-Retinal Surgeons through education, exploration, review and revalidation. The idea of a British Isles Vitreoretinal Society was brought about by David MacLeod, Tony Chignell and Peter Leaver. Their colleagues at that time were David Wong, Paul Jacobs and Charlie James. This gathering of six are viewed as the founder individuals from the society and the first meeting was held at Keeble College in July 1986. For the initial 24 years of its presence the Society prided itself on having no formal structure. In any case, the extent of the meeting is with the end goal this would put an untenable budgetary weight on the host unit. A decision unanimously was taken at the 2009 BEAVRS meeting in Amsterdam to formalize the structure of the Society and the primary board was chosen in 2010 at the 2010 meeting held at Celtic Manor, Wales. In the ensuing 4 years we have accumulated a war mid-section with which to endorse the meeting and different BEAVRS movement, exhorted on revalidation and set up an online national retinal separation review.
