The CBS was conceive in the year 1957 to stimulate the science of biochemistry and was headed by Prof A.M. Wynne as the first President. The year 1992 saw a change in the name of the society from CBS to Canadian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In the year 1995 Canadian Society of Cellular and Molecular Biology chose to merge with Canadian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. And thus the organization became Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology (CSBMCB). Further in 2010 Genetics Society of Canada also decided to merge with the CSBMCB. As the society and its members broadened finally in the year 2011, the name was settled to Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences.
Since 2001, the society has been holding its own Annual Meetings. On Tuesday May 16 to Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Ottawa, the 60th Annual Conference of the CSMB will be held.
