The European Behavioural Pharmacology Society (EBPS) is a member of study group Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). The origin of EBPS founded I. P. Stolerman and F. Colpaert, in 1984. With the prior to the founding of EBPS, study of pharmacological behavioural is considered as the first study group in Europe and USA.
The first international symposium discriminative stimulus effect of drugs was held in 1978 with the support of Janssen Pharmaceutical under the Francis colpaert and John Rosecarns organisation. Later with many meetings on their recent findings Society for Stimulus Properties of Drugs (SSPD) was formed in USA. With long term continues meetings the Ian Stolerman was intended to form a wider society (EBPS) on covering behavioural pharmacology.
The second International Meeting of EBPS, held in Athens 1988 has grown into more than 300 attendees with a substantial reserve of funds had been built up due to the bounty of donors and the fabulous efforts. However, International meetings in series of EBPS conferences are yet to be held regular series with dedications towards behavioural pharmacology presently organised by any society in any country or continent.
