International Neural Network Society (INNS)

The International Neural Network Society (INNS) is the renowned society for individuals interested in a theoretical and computational understanding of the brain and applying that knowledge to create new and better effective forms of machine intelligence. INNS was formed in 1987 by the leading scientists in the field of neural network. The Society has grown rapidly with a current worldwide membership accounting to more than 2,000. The field of neural networks encourages interdisciplinary perspectives, and INNS' membership reflects this diversity. Members of this society belong to a variety of fields, backgrounds and processes different level of interest. Their main target is to clearly understand the human mind and to create more powerful brain-inspired intelligent machines for resolving complex problems that the 21st-century societies are going to face. The International Neural Network Society (INNS) is the premiere professional society for researchers across the world who are working on neural networks and areas related to it such as big data, computational neuroscience, machine learning, neuroinformatics, and cognitive science. They also invite the participation from researchers in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics, computational biology, and biomorphic systems. The society has members from all over the world, and also  has several Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which are also present in local regions. The motive of INNS is to support activities that advance understanding of humankind about how mental functions such as perception, decision-making ,cognition, memory and motor control emerge from the nervous system, and to use this information to design smarter machines and algorithms for applications across all disciplines. In recent years, INNS has made efforts to promote high-quality research and exchange of ideas in some of the most relevant research areas today that includes bio-inspired hardware, autonomous learning, and big data.  International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN) 2015, with INNS as the lead organizer, will be held in Killarney, Ireland, in July 2015. In addition to IEEE-CIS, INNS also collaborates actively with the European Neural Network Society (ENNS), the Japanese Neural Network Society (JNNS), the Asia-Pacific Neural Network Assembly (APNNA), and several other professional societies. INNS shares its flagship journal, Neural Networks, with ENNS and JNNS.
