International Society Of Surgery

The International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) is considered today a standout amongst the most recognized and prestigious universal surgical social orders on the planet. The International Society of Surgery - La Société Internationale de Chirurgie – was financed in 1902 on the activity of Belgian specialists Antoine Depage and his partners. After the foundation of the Society with its head-office in Belgium, the primary universal surgical meeting was held in Brussels in 1905 and was led by a popular Swiss specialist, Dr.Theodor Kocher. After World War II the association turned out to be step by step more grounded with the support of specialists from Europe as well as from North and South America and from Asia and Australia. The Society's diary, the World Journal of Surgery, was established in 1977. Today, under the initiative of Professor John Hunter, it is evaluated among the top surgical diaries. In 1979 the ISS/SIC central station were moved from Brussels to Basel, Switzerland. In this way, other surgical social orders joined the ISS as coordinated social orders: the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) in 1979 (at the Congress in San Francisco); the International Association for the Surgery of Trauma and Surgical Intensive Care (IATSIC) in 1989; the International Association for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition (IASMEN) in1993 Breast Surgery International (BSI) in 1999 (at the Congress in Vienna); the International Society for Digestive Surgery (ISDS) - established as CICD in 1969 – in 2009 in Adelaide, and as of late the Alliance for Surgery and Anesthesia Presence (ASAP) participated in 2013 at the Helsinki Congress. The ISS/SIC World Congress of Surgery (some time ago International Surgical Week) is held like clockwork in a joint effort with its incorporated social orders, taking an interest social orders and national social orders of the host nation. The latest congress was held in Bangkok, Thailand in August 2015 with the cooperation of more than 2,400 specialists from 81 nations around the globe. Because of the diligent work of Professor Nopadol Wora-Urai, a solid Local Organizing Committee and the investment of the Royal College of Surgeons in Thailand, it was an awesome achievement..
