Korean Society for Vascular Surgery

The Korean Society for Vascular Surgery was established on 1986. The mission of the society is to develop the field of Vascular Surgery and to pioneer a number of innovative techniques and new path ways.  Vascular Surgery has become more specialized and fragmented than in the past time, such as CT, vascular ultrasound, MRI examination, surgical treatment, endovascular treatment, disease-specific guidelines for the various drugs, including diagnosis and treatment in relation to vascular disease. In addition, due to the increase in population and patients with vascular disease also it amplified it’s rapidly.

Previously Vascular Surgery was considered as a field within general surgery, but now it is considered a specialty in its own right. Vascular surgery is the surgical subspecialty in which illnesses related to the vascular system are treated by medical therapy, surgical reconstruction and minimally-invasive catheter procedures. The specialty developed from general and cardiac surgery along with insignificantly invasive techniques initiated by interventional radiology.

Arterial and venous diseases are treated by stenting, angiography, and non-operative varicose vein treatment. The process of endovenous laser treatment and Sclerotherapy are rapidly replacing critical surgery in many first world countries. These new procedures offer reasonable outcomes that are similar to surgery with the advantage of short hospital stay with less morbidity and mortality rates. The cost savings from shorter hospital stays and less morbidity are considerable but the implant devices, imaging equipment, construction and staffing of dedicated procedural suites costs are very high.

A recent trend has started in the United States that is the stand-alone day angiography facility accompanying with a private vascular surgery clinic, allowing treatment of most arterial endovascular cases suitably and possibly with lesser overall cost. Similarly non-hospital treatment facilities for non-operative treatments are now widespread in many countries.
