Latvian Ornithological Society

In 1985 Latvian Ornithological Society was founded and anyone who is interested in birds and nature conservation can join it. LOB is been taken care by council of eight members and a president who is elected at end of every four years. Day to day task is run by its board and staffs. The budget of LOB is funded by many private individuals and companies and its membership fees. By the end of 2012 LOB has around 500 members with people of various ages and occupation. The primary goal of Lob is the conserve diverse and viable wild bird of Latvia. To maintain the condition which ensures that bird species are naturally connected by Latvia is also one of the aim for which this society acts. Involving with other NGOs, Government institute, Cooperates and society LOB carries out research and techniques to conserve bird wild life. Associations and NGOs such as Lattelekom SIA, SIA UPIS, Swedish Ornithological Society, Sveaskog Baltfor, Jaņa Seta, Sabiedrība Tilde are supporting LBO to maintain its goals and activities. Activities of Latvian Ornithological Society includes: Riga bird battle 2015- In this competition seven teams participated which together observed 85 species of birds. The winner of this competition was Himantopus himantopus and LOB local groups meets in Pape- September 5-6, 2015: At Pape the opening seminar of ornithological station took place which was attended by 21 participants, most of them from LOB.
