League of ASEAN Dermatologists societies was established in 1974 by the national dermatological societies of Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, League of ASEAN Dermatologists Societies (LADS) has a long history of presence in dermatology in the ASEAN region. The Prof Dr Syarief Hidayat is the existing president of LADS. First Regional Conference of Dermatology (Asian-Australasian) was organized by Singapore in the year1974 and since then LADS organized the RCD (Asian-Australasian) once in a time period of two years rotation wise among the member nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam). The founder members of LADS formally signed a document at the 8th RCD (Asian-Australasian) is known as the Bali Declaration in the year 1988, formally claiming their obligation and familiar interest in the development of dermatology in the region. The current members as well as founder members of LADS are: Dermatological Society of Singapore (DSS), Dermatological Society of Malaysia (PDM), Dermatological Society of Thailand (DST), Indonesian Society for Dermatology and Venereology (PERDOSKI), Philippines Dermatological Society (PDS), Vietnam Society of Dermatology & Venereology (VSDV). The LADS prevails as a non-profit organization of the national dermatological societies in the Southeast Asian Region working with a mission to devote its focus towards training, service and research in dermatology, to establish linkages and conspire in order to nurse camaraderie with each member society. The key objectives of LADS includes the following: to provide a venue for exchange of ideas, to perform best clinical practices, bring innovations and updates among member countries, to carry out research both locally and internationally having topics relevant to each country, to establish linkages with other countries to promote the sharing of teaching and research facilities, to promote international recognition of the specialty/organization in other parts of the world, opening venues for exchange trainees, exchange dermatological practitioners or faculties, fellowship grants, to organise scholarships, and awards to worthy members, faculty, practitioners and trainees, to promote supremacy in dermatological training/practices among member countries. The LADS Council Meeting reviews the progress of the development of dermatology amongst its members and in the region. The venue of succeeding RCD is driven formally at the Council Meeting. In addition, the Council Meeting appoints Specialty Boards to look into the development of individual Subspecialty groups. The journals and publications of LADS include: Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, Journal of Dermatology, British, International Journal of Dermatology, JAMA Dermatology and Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery. LADS play a major role is in the continuation of medical education by the medical practitioners in the field of dermatology, monthly meetings incorporating seminars, clinical meetings and talks, followed by Annual scientific meetings.
