Linnean Society of Bordeaux

The Linnean Society of Bordeaux has more than 300 members, publishes four scientific papers per year, thematic publications, and a series of memoirs and various other works. The Linnean Society was found in the year 1818. It has a national and international reputation in the exchange of publications with 70 companies in France and 145 in more than 35 countries worldwide.J-F. Laterrade, professor of botany and mathematics, author of the Flora Bordeaux, convene his students to organize a trip which will take place two days later in the town of Merignac. The day after the June 25, 1818, the participants met again and founded our Company by limiting the number of members to 24, many of the Linnaean system classes. The Linnean Society of Bordeaux was recognized of public utility by Royal Order of June 15, 1828. It was first mainly devoted to botany, but quickly, she chose to become multidisciplinary, as was Linnaeus. She became particularly active in Entomology in Paleontology and Mycology. From the beginning, the activities of the Linnean Society are the subject of publications appearing in the "Bulletin of the Museum of Polymathique Bordeaux" and in "L'Ami des Champs" which Laterrade took the lead, finally, in his own "Bulletin" the publication of which has never stopped. Very quickly, publications exchanges were established with other companies, in France and in the World.
