MPhA’s mission is to strengthen the profession of pharmacy, advocate for all Maryland Pharmacists and promote excellence in pharmacy practice. MPhA is the voice representing all Maryland pharmacists as innovative and respected members of the healthcare team focused on the health and well-being of Maryland residents. The purpose of MPhA is to promote the health and well-being of Maryland citizens;safe and effective use of medications and health care devices;collaboration among health care professionals and organizations;professional competence;leadership development;responsible legislation and regulation;the history and tradition of Maryland Pharmacy. MPhA supports state and national efforts to recognize pharmacists as health care providers. This association will pursue means of educating the public and health care community of the value and the appropriateness of the role of the pharmacist as a primary care provider of the patient’s health care team. In order to provide quality pharmaceutical care, it supports electronic prescribing that protects the physician, pharmacist, patient triad and does not allow an intermediary to intervene in that relationship. It encourages all pharmacy practice settings to work closely together with their business associates, to adopt technology to advance patient care and safety, fostering a “Patient-Centered Medical Home” approach for comprehensive care. MPhA is governed by a 13-member Board of Trustees who implements Association policies and monitors the organization’s direction. Policy direction is generated by a House of Delegates that meets annually during the organization’s annual conference to set, review, and evaluate policy proposals that have an impact on the profession of pharmacy. It operates a separate organization i.e; the Maryland Pharmacists Association Foundation which organizes separately and invests in the future of pharmacy by supporting student pharmacists, recognizing practice innovation and advancements, and enhancing philanthropy that supports leadership.
