Medical Association Of Jamaica

Medical Association of Jamaica is the oldest professional association in Jamaica, which was constituted as the first overseas branch of the British Medical Association in 1877. Medical Association of Jamaica is an organization of medical doctors committed to the enhancement of the professional and personal development of the members. The Medical Association of Jamaica evolved from the British Medical Association Jamaica Branch which was constituted as the first overseas branch of the British Medical Association in 1877. It has over 2000 members, including students. The Association celebrated its Golden Jubilee as an independent organization in June 2015. MAJ is the voluntary professional and advocacy body for doctors in Jamaica. In its golden jubilee week the association hosted aactivities aimed at heightening public awareness about the range of health related issues arising from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes and hypertension. Under the theme: ‘Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases: the 21st Century Tsunami’, the MAJ kicked off its celebratory activities with a church service at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Chapel on Sunday, June 7.
