NAEYC's underlying foundations stretch out to the 1920s when proficient analysts and teachers started sorting out nursery schools for youthful youngsters. Worried about the nature of the multiplying programs, Patty Smith Hill distinguished a multidisciplinary gathering of 25 people, among them Arnold Gesell, Lois Meek (Stolz), and Abigail Eliot, to consider the requirement for another affiliation. An open meeting was held in Washington, DC in 1926. By 1929, the gathering was sorted out as the National Association for Nursery Education (NANE) and had distributed its first book—Minimum Essentials for Nursery Education.
